woman wearing a colorwork hand-dyed Polwarth wool handknit cowl

new design: Deciduous Cowl

2-color leaf motif colorwork handknit cowl modeled by woman

Introducing the Deciduous Cowl by Sarah Keller. Several years ago I designed the Deciduous Hat, a sportweight pattern in stranded colorwork. It quickly became a favorite hat to wear and knit, and now felt like a great time to add the Deciduous Cowl to the set! The Deciduous Cowl is designed in fingering weight Laneras Beartooth, a soft, high-definition superwash Polwarth wool. With two skeins of Beartooth in contrasting colors, you can knit 2 cowls by reversing your Main and Contrast colors. Choose from a range of colors of Beartooth to suit your seasonal inspiration!

The Decidious Cowl is knit in the round (in a tube) and the ends are joined together using a 3-needle bind off in the contrast color or grafted together. Both options are presented in the pattern with video links included. The colorwork is engaging to knit as the leaf motif develops, and the wrong side of the stranded colorwork is hidden on the inside of the tube for a tidy finish.
